Ashtanga yoga is a flowing, dynamic form of yoga that was developed by Sri K. Patthabi Jois. Essentially, it is a set series of postures that are linked to the breath in a flow of movement. Each pose is linked and synchronised using a breathing system called ‘ujjayi pranayama’. The discipline of this system allows us to develop a deeper understanding and awareness of ourselves. This can be both an empowering and liberating experience, allowing us to move through life with a calmness and steadiness of mind and body.
On a more physical level, Ashtanga yoga is a very effective means of increasing strength and flexibility. Our Ashtanga yoga classes are a great way to gain muscle strength and flexibility. In addition this, it can also help you to improve your posture. Not only will this help prevent injury (or re-injury), but may help you to achieve a mind-body connection.

My Yoga Mama practice keeps me balanced, energised and sane. It takes a huge effort to drag myself out of bed on a Saturday morning. After practice, the stress and strains of the past week disappear and I feel strong enough to take on the world.Karen Gill MBE
